Artist Statement:
“For as long as I can remember, art has always been a huge part of my life. When I am not making art, I am often thinking about it or spending time reading about art and other artists.”
About
Born and raised on Gadigal Land (Sydney), Nicholas is married to the amazing Diana and a father of three beautiful daughters.
In this season of life, Nicholas’ art practice consists of utilising opportune moments in between the beautiful chaos of family life. This usually consists of sketching thoughts and ideas at night or in blocks of roughly 15 to 30 minutes (or the length of a typical normal washing machine cycle). Much of his subject matter focuses on his immediate surrounds such as the garden, birds, portraiture, still life and the occasional landscape inspired by a day trip or family holiday.
Nicholas' preferred medium is oil paint, however, due to time restraints and the need to avoid hazardous materials (with young humans equally interested in art making), he is currently working with gouache, watercolour and ink, which enables for a quick set up and pack up.
